Proposal for Continuous Assessment of Autonomous Work in an Introductory Programming Course. 2025 44th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC), , 1-4. https://doi.org/10.1109/sccc67219.2025.11420285https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12740/24998Autonomous work is a key transversal competency in the academic training of engineers, which is why it must be methodically promoted through different methodologies and/or strategies to strengthen students’ self-management of self-learning. This article presents a methodological proposal to address this issue, applied as a case study to first-year students of the Computer and Informatics Engineering program in the subject Programming and Algorithm. Currently, the course has a structure of guided exercises and workshop, incorporating in the latter the problem-based learning (PBL) methodology. This proposal originates from a previous investigation, where the evaluation of the autonomous work dimension obtained an acceptable score (3.9) on a Likert scale (1-5). Within the framework of the above, a strategy of continuous monitoring and follow-up is proposed through formative assessments, instruments for observing progress, and student self-evaluation. What is intended in this work is the formulation of a methodological proposal that serves as a strategy that can be replicated and aligned with the competencies declared in the graduation profiles of various university programs, under the premise that it contributes to the student's time management outside the classroom. This proposal is presented as an initial phase that is under development, for later empirical validation and thus assess whether the proposed actions lead to an improvement or are only adjustments without real impact.http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbHigher Education Teaching and EvaluationTeaching and Learning ProgrammingEngineering Education and Curriculum DevelopmentProposal for Continuous Assessment of Autonomous Work in an Introductory Programming CourseConference Paperhttps://doi.org/10.1109/sccc67219.2025.11420285
