Abstract
This paper places the Service-Learning methodology in the context of the active methodologies promoted by constructivist models promoted in higher education in recent decades, suggesting that it is a methodology that allows these models to be materialized at the classroom level, in accordance with the development of the competencies currently required of legal professionals. From there, the article explains how the Service-Learning methodology was implemented in the Consumer Law course of the Law School at the University of Atacama. This was done through a community engagement project carried out jointly with the National Consumer Service, which involved activities to promote and defend the rights of older adults in the municipality of Copiap ó. Once this implementation has been described, this article addresses the assessment of students' learning and competencies, as provided in the subject program, explaining the evaluation process of the relevant generic and specific competencies, with the aim of determining the effectiveness of the active methodology implemented in light of the results obtained.
