Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the combined effects of physical exercise and pain management education, implemented through telerehabilitation, in women with fibromyalgia. Method: A pre-post experimental study was conducted with twenty-one fibromyalgia participants assigned to the intervention group (n=11) and a control group (n=10) maintaining their usual treatments. The intervention consisted of 24 strength and resistance exercise sessions. Additionally, weekly pain education sessions were conducted. Evaluation tools such as FIQR, SF-MPQ, PCS, and SATED were employed. Results: In the intervention group, significant improvements in physical functionality and symptom severity were observed (p = 0.023), along with a substantial reduction in catastrophizing (p = 0.007). In contrast, the control group showed no significant changes (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The combination of exercise and education through telerehabilitation demonstrated notable benefits in physical functionality, symptomatology, and catastrophizing reduction in women with fibromyalgia. These results support the efficacy of comprehensive non-pharmacological interventions and underscore the relevance of telerehabilitation as a valuable option in managing this condition. The significant reduction in catastrophizing suggests that this comprehensive approach could positively influence pain perception and the quality of life of individuals with fibromyalgia.
